:: Don’t stop here….::“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has it’s own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, or the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if on tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.” ~Albert Einstein “I don’t think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday.” ~Abraham LincolnDON’T STOP LEARNING!

The Beginning of Knowledge

By Kelley Asbury | December 16, 2009

“I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You the Nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. “Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. “Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.” ~Psalm 2:7-12 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” ~Proverbs 1:7 After watch the movie “Amazing Grace” the other night I read the first scripture. I had been thinking about the things that humans have done to each other (slavery, abortion, wars, the list goes on). While reading the verse, “Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling” I felt this awesome fear of the Lord, but at the same time, I felt His overwhelming love for me and the rest of His creation. It occurred to me that before I had always felt the two emotions separately, and viewed them…

"Offensive Wrestling"

By Kelley Asbury | December 11, 2009

“Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” -Numbers 13:30 “But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.” -Numbers 14:24 When the Israelites came to the Promise Land for the first time they sent spies into the land; The 12 came back saying that the land was great but the people in it were too many, too strong and the children of Israel would never be able to take over. All 12, except for two. Joshua and Caleb. God was displeased with the peoples’ lack of faith, and he punished them by keeping them in the wilderness for forty more years , saying that they would never see the promise land, only their children would be allowed in. Except for Caleb and Joshua. He was pleased with these two because they had a different spirit. My Dad talks about being an over comer, and that the over comers are going to be the ones who inherit the earth. In Caleb’s case it was a small part of the earth, but eventually when the Lord comes back the…

Double the Troube….. but Triple the fun!

By Kelley Asbury | December 8, 2009

A little over a year ago our family was blessed with not one baby, like we were expecting, but “two babies!” Oh my. They’ve sure been double the trouble, but they are triple (or more) the fun. Each one makes the other even cuter! Last night we were all playing on the floor, so I grabbed my camera to record one of the many many things I’m thankful for, and start writing “thank you cards” “It is good to give thanks to the Lord,And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;To declare You loving kindness in the morning,And Your faithfulness every night.O Lord, how great are Your works!Your thoughts are very deep.”Psalm 92:1-2, 5 :: Mark and Kathryn :: :: Elijah James and Kathryn Elise =D :: :: Mark and Fuzz (aka Elijah) :: Four of my siblings, Elijah, Mark, Amy and Kate :: This one goes kinda like this….. “No Fuzz, YOU can’t come up here, ‘cuz your not big like me!” ~Rachel :: Fuzz loves to ham for the camera, He gets pretty excited when it comes out :: :: Ooop, here’s the serious look:: :: Hamming it up again :: :: Two of my gorgeous sisters :: :: And here he is again, trying to push the chair ::

Thank You Cards

By Kelley Asbury | December 5, 2009

“Every blessing you pour out, I’ll turn back to praise // and when the darkness closes in // Still I will say // blessed be the Name of the Lord. ~ Matt Redmond Tonight while playing this song on my guitar I began to really think about these words. Every blessing. Watching my three littlest siblings, two of whom just turned one, singing this song, I contemplated how many of my blessings I actually turn into praises to my God. Sixty percent? Fifty Percent? ummm, 25 percent? maybe? I look at the huge blessings in my life, such as the twins and my nine other siblings, but so many things pass me by every day, unnoticed. When we receive a gift, say for a birthday, we will usually write a thank you to the person who remembered us on our day. But God remembers us every day of every year, yet how many times do we stop to write Him a thank you card? Although Thanksgiving has come and gone, let’s still remember the blessings God has poured down on us, and not only remember them, but turn them into praise! “Let the high praises of the Lord be in their mouth.” Psalm 149:6 “Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous, And give thanks at the remembrance of His Holy…

Sunshine or Stars

By Kelley Asbury | December 3, 2009

“No, you’ll never be alone, when darkness comes I’ll light the night with stars; hear my whispers in the dark.” ~Whispers In the Dark, Skillet I’ve been realizing more and more that God isn’t here to make all our problems go away, but here to help us live a full life, and deal with the problems we face. I first started thinking about it when I read this quote from Donald Miller (A Million Miles in a Thousand Years): “Growing up in church, we were taught that Jesus was the answer to all our problems. We were taught that there was a circle-shaped hole in our heart and that we had tried to fill it with the square pegs of sex, drugs, and rock and roll; but only the circle peg of Jesus could fill our hole. I became a Christian based, in part, on this promise, but the hole never really went away. To be sure, I like Jesus, and I still follow him, but the idea that Jesus will make everything better is a lie. It’s basically biblical theology translated into the language of infomercials.” Jesus said to come for Him for, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” He never said that all our problems would go away, or that it will always be…
